Rich was appointed to the newly-created position of Transformation Chair at the U.S. Air Force Academy in April, 2007. In that role he will work with other senior leaders at the Academy to transform its educational practices and culture to better support the Academy’s mission of producing leaders of character.
For twelve years preceding his appointment as Transformation Chair, Rich served in various management and teaching roles at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), where his work focused on senior executive leadership. His research interests included strategic leadership and organizational culture change, and Rich helped create the Center’s new practice in organizational leadership development. Before joining CCL, Rich had served previously at the Air Force Academy, including a decade as full professor and the permanent head of its Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership. Rich is the senior author of the textbook Leadership: Enhancing the Lessons of Experience, soon to be published in its 6th edition by Irwin/McGraw-Hill. He is also co-author of Becoming a Strategic Leader: Your Role in Your Organization’s Enduring Success, published by Jossey-Bass in 2005.
Rich received his B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy, his M.A. from the University of Texas, and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Wyoming.
