Sean E. Towne
Research Facilities Design
Sean Towne is a Principal of Research Facilities Design, specializing exclusively in the programming and design of laboratory facilities for institutional, industry, and governmental clients. Based in San Diego, RFD has consulted on over 1000 projects in 46 states throughout the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Kuwait, Malaysia and Egypt.
Mr. Towne joined RFD in 1996 after 15 years as a prime architect and now specializes in laboratory applications for Teaching Laboratory Facilities at the Community College, State College and University level, both Public and Private, as well as, R-1 Research and Biotechnology industry laboratory design.
Sean’s experience has focused on academic science facilities for such private institutions as: Saint Lawrence University, Hope College, Samford University, University of San Diego, Florida institute of Technology, Niagara University. Public Institution work includes: Virginia Polytechnic University, Cal Poly SLO, North Carolina State University, UC Davis, University of Nevada Reno, New Mexico State University, UC Merced, Sonoma State University, Cal State Stanislaus, Western State College, Wright State University, and seventeen Community Colleges.
Sean holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. His professional affiliations include: American Institute of Architects, Council on Undergraduate Research, Society for College and University Planning and Registered Disaster Services Worker.
Mr. Towne has been involved with organizations promoting forward thinking including SCUP, Tradeline, Project Kaleidoscope and Council on Undergraduate Research. Topics on which Mr. Towne has lectured include Trends in Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories, Open Laboratory Design for Research and Benchmarking for Effective Programming.
