Description:
The Biomanufacturing Research Institute & Technology Enterprise is a part of a statewide initiative to make North Carolina a premiere provider of skilled workers for the biotechnology industry. The design and construction of the BRITE Facility will support academic degree programs in biomanufacturing and biotechnology at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degree levels.
BRITE will be located on the site of new Mary M. Townes Science Complex. This new structure will be added as a wing or constructed in close proximity to the new, 120,000 sq. ft. Science Complex. With such a strategic location, the Biomanufacturing Research Institute will easily share classroom, lecture hall, and auditorium space with science and technology degree programs that will be housed within the Science Complex. The entire BRITE facility will be dedicated to housing laboratories for faculty to conduct basic/applied research in areas related to biomanufacturing. The facility will also house common equipment rooms, core laboratories will be typical of those found in biotechnology companies. The modules will initially support training in eight areas of specialization- microbiology, QC/QA, Analytical Chemistry, Cell Culture, microbial physiology, purification, virology, and bench scale process development and recovery.
