Brian Whalen is Associate Dean of the College and Executive Director of the Office of Global Education at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He has been involved in international education for 18 years, first by serving as a resident director in Italy for both the University of Dallas and for Boston University, after which he worked as associate director for international programs at Boston University and director of international education at Marist College. He is the founding editor of Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad, and continues to serve as its editor. He serves on the board and as Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Council for International Education (PaCIE), on the Advisory Board of the FORUM on Education Abroad and Chair of its Committee on Outcomes Assessment, and is a founding sponsor of Abroad View Magazine. He is a member of NAFSA's Region VIII Trainer Corps on Education Abroad Advising. He has taught courses in psychology, literature, and comparative education at the University of Dallas, Lesley College, and Dickinson College. Whalen holds a Ph.D. in psychology and continues to research and write about the psychology of home and homelessness.
Whalen has overseen the management of Dickinson's award-winning global education programs, including four international science programs on which over two-thirds of Dickinson science students participate. He works with science faculty to develop both short- and long-term study abroad programs, and is nationally recognized for his work in the assessment of outcomes of these students.
