PKAL Faculty for the 21st Century

Call for Statements for 2007

Deadline: October 15, 2007

Reflecting the planning of PKAL activities in the coming academic year (including the 2007 PKAL F21 National Assembly), we ask that each F21 member prepare a one-page statement that responds to the following questions:

  • What does leadership mean to me, given my responsibilities for the undergraduate STEM learning environment? What are my personal capacities as leader?
  • How do the institutional culture and the broader societal context play a role in defining and shaping leaders and leadership within the undergraduate STEM community?
  • What resources help develop the capacity of STEM faculty to serve as leaders, given the local, regional, and national communities of which they are a part?
  • What are the ‘grounding’ theories of leadership that can inform and inspire my evolution as a leader, given my institutional context and the larger needs of science and society?

  • Statements should be in 10 to 12 point font (Times New Roman is preferred). They can be just a brief paragraph, but should not exceed one (1) page in length.

  • Include the following information at the top of the statement:
Name, Title, Department, Institution, Phone, Fax, and Email.

  • Statements should be submitted as MS Word documents.

How will these statements be used.
F21 statements will be included in PKAL Volume IV: What Works, What Matters, What Lasts, PKAL's online publication, as well as in other PKAL publications. All statements are gathered into an annual Collection of Statements and distributed widely, within and beyond the Project Kaleidoscope community.
