Position in Sustainable Materials- Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts

The New School seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sustainable Materials Science to play an integral role in supporting the teaching, research, and program development needs of a new innovative Environmental Studies degree program that integrates design, the social sciences and the natural sciences with a focus on the urban environment (see www.newschool.edu/environmentalstudies).

The faculty member will be part of the Natural Sciences & Math program at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, with the possibility of a joint appointment with Parsons The New School for Design. The position is dependent on budget approval from the Office of the Provost.

Applicants must have a strong research background (with a track record of research and publication) in one or more of the following areas: industrial ecology, life cycle assessment, green engineering, and sustainable materials or product design. We are interested in candidates with an interest in and a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in the Interdisciplinary Science program, the Environmental Studies degree program, and in Parsons The New School for Design. Outstanding candidates will have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduates, a history of collaboration across academic disciplines, including interdisciplinary teaching and research, and an established track record of research and publication. A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, environmental engineering or other relevant engineering field or other closely allied discipline is required; postdoctoral research experience and some teaching experience preferred.
