Position in Environmental Studies (Applied/Environmental Statistics) - The New School for Liberal Arts

The New School has recently developed an innovative Environmental Studies degree program that integrates design, the social sciences, and the natural sciences, with a focus on the urban environment. (newschool.edu/environmentalstudies) We wish to hire a renewable term assistant professor in Applied or Environmental Statistics who is interested in playing an integral role in supporting the teaching, research, and programmatic needs of this new program. The position is located in the Natural Sciences & Math department at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate statistics and quantitative reasoning courses in the Interdisciplinary Science and Environmental Studies programs with the possibility of teaching graduate level courses. The position is dependent on budget approval from the Office of the Provost.

  • Must have a strong research background (with a track record of research and publication) in fields such as environmental statistics, medical geography, public health, urban planning or biostatistics
  • Must demonstrate interest, experience and the ability to teach, work and research with both liberal arts and design students and faculty
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and mentoring undergraduates, and a history of collaboration across academic disciplines with an emphasis on interdisciplinary teaching and research
  • A Ph.D. in Applied Statistics, Environmental Statistics, Medical Geography, Public Health, Biostatistics or closely related field is required
  • Postdoctoral research experience and some teaching experience preferred
