Abstract:
This session will address the critical role institution-wide student orientation programs and introductory and general education courses in the sciences can play in attracting or deterring the participation of students from under-represented groups in the sciences. In addition the impact of integrated mentoring programs and undergraduate research opportunities will be highlighted and discussed.

Four breakout sessions would follow an overview.
