Applications are invited for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics position, beginning August 17, 2009. Salary is dependent upon qualification. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching primarily college level physics courses. Duties may include teaching introductory mathematics and astronomy, developing and teaching blended or distance learning courses, and academic advising. Some courses may be taught in the evenings or at off-campus locations including two correctional facilities. Teaching load is 11-14 contact hours per week per semester (3-4 courses per semester). Research and scholarly activities appropriate to a primarily teaching institution are expected and supported. Preference will be given to candidates who can involve students in research.

The department currently offers the first two years of an undergraduate physics program, and provides service courses to support campus degree and certificate programs, including a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Starting fall 2009, the department will offer upper level physics and mathematics courses as part of a new B.S. degree in Secondary Mathematics Education, with tracks in Physics and Physical Science likely to follow in 2-3 years.

An earned Ph.D. in Physics or Applied Physics with a strong commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching is required. Documented teaching success in physics at the college level is highly desirable. Previous experience in teaching Introductory Astronomy is a plus.

A complete application must include a letter of application (statements of teaching and research philosophy, current Visa status and basis of eligibility for employment in the U.S. are to be included), a curriculum vitae, copies of undergraduate and graduate academic transcripts, and names of three current references.
