Integrating research and education

Incorporating undergraduate research opportunities into the undergraduate curriculum can be a very valuable and a very challenging pursuit. Here students learn ‘how science is done’ by ‘actually doing science.’ But, ‘actually doing science’ is very time consuming. In these sessions, participants will learn about exemplar efforts to institutionalize research in undergraduate STEM education. F21 members will explore how leaders shape new policies and programs in building interest and consensus when undertaking curricular reform. This will include discussions about time management and barriers to reform, i.e., what does not work.
