Biology Department Chair - University of St. Thomas

The Biology Department at the University of St. Thomas ( ) invites applications for the position of Department Chair, to start September 2009. Successful candidates will be expected to provide dynamic and creative leadership to a department of 14 faculty and 5 staff who are strongly committed to undergraduate education and to the development of high quality research programs that involve undergraduates and that have the potential for external funding.

The department offers BA and BS degrees in Biology and, in collaboration with other departments, interdisciplinary BS degrees in Biochemistry, Environmental Science, and Neuroscience. Over 800 students are taught each year, and 60-80 graduate with a degree in one of the life sciences. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarly activity. Prior experience in academic administration is preferred. Rank and disciplinary expertise are open. Support will include significant start-up funds, lab space in a modern, well-equipped science facility, and a generous time allocation for research. A contribution to departmental teaching is also expected.
