The physics department at this state university is relatively small and supports several overlapping programs. Faculty research interests are diverse and teaching loads are heavy. Th e department seems incapable of making important decisions without internal strife and is now in real danger of losing space in the planned building renovation unless it can put forth a clear plan for the space it already occupies.
