PKAL Atlanta Regional Gathering

September 11, 2007

The PKAL Atlanta Regional Gathering was on September 11. All Atlanta area faculty and administrators committed to strengthening the undergraduate STEM learning environment were invited to attend.

The dinner gathering, was sponsored by Lord, Aeck, and Sargent, and was at Maggianno’s Little Italy Restaurant in Buckhead at 6:30 p.m.

This gathering was a result of a small group of PKAL Atlanta-based colleagues who met in early June to explore the potential and possibility of an Atlanta PKAL network. There was an immediate sense of community, an “aha” awareness of the similarities of research and pedagogical interests, of a commitment to students within and beyond the undergraduate setting, and an understanding of how boundaries between institutions could be dissolved and creative collaborations shaped. The opening question was, “what are you doing now that you are most passionate about?” Responses to that question elicited comments like, “wow that sounds interesting— tell me more.”

So, this is the next step, in response to those comments.
