Session: Strategies for Building a Strong Departmental Program
Presenter(s):
Heather Macdonald, College of William and Mary
The focus of this session will be relating departmental missions to the range of components that are part of a departmental program including: the department's role in the preparation of K-12 teachers, the development of scientific and quantitative literacy, and the preparation of majors for careers within and outside of the earth and planetary sciences. In addition to courses, curricula, and undergraduate research, these components include activities that support the recruitment and retention of students and engage them in the life of the department. Discussion will center on developing plans and strategies for implementation.
